Mitigating Racial Bias in Customer Experiences

Each day, millions of people from all different backgrounds cross paths within brick-and-mortar client experiences of all industries. These interactions bring a range of possibilities: positive and negative experiences, connection and misunderstanding, and as research indicates, often, instances of racial bias and the feeling of unfair treatment.

In 2021, Sephora commissioned a first-of-its-kind study to explore the state of racial bias in U.S. retail across all major retail categories. Now as a follow-up to their work, the beauty company has committed to making change by partnering with Open to All to initiate a corporate charter that aims to bring retailers together to implement tactics and actions that can mitigate racial biases from the shopper experience and create more welcoming environments for all.

Join Seramount, Sephora, J.Crew, and Open to All, to hear what Sephora learned about bias in brick-and-mortar shopping environments, how it impacts an organization, and the advancements being made across companies to evoke change.

Attendees will:
  • Learn about the findings of Sephora Racial Bias in Retail Study, the Mitigate Racial Bias in Retail Charter, and how bias at the brick-and-mortar level impacts an organization’s bottom line
  • Listen to a panel discussion from the DEI leaders of Sephora, J.Crew, and Open to All about how this is impacting their organizations from the top down
  • Hear how our Diversity Best Practices member, Sephora is evolving best practices to mitigate bias from the shopper experience
Not a traditional retailer? Learn how you too can glean from these best practices and be part of the change.
